Avril Lavigne Invites Fans To Sing With Her For Charity

Canadian, pop-punk rocker Avril Lavigne has combined her passion for music and giving back by having The Avril Lavigne Foundation team up with Women’s College Hospital Foundation to help raise money for the hospital. They’ve created a rare opportunity called Raise Your Voice that gives fans the chance to collaborate with Avril on her hit song “Keep Moving On”by recording their voices in sound booths located around the Greater Toronto Area or online at www.singwithavril.com.

Avril Lavigne Raise Your Voice Keep Holding On

Faze caught up with Avril to talk about her foundation and this one-of-a-kind experience.

Why choose your song “Keep Holding On” to collaborate instead of creating a whole new song?
I wanted to collaborate with my fans on a song I knew was already perfect for the Raise Your Voice campaign. The message of this song is part of what inspired the Avril Lavigne Foundation’s mission to provide Respect, Opportunity, Choices, Knowledge and Strength for children and youth living with serious illnesses or disabilities, no matter what their circumstances.

What made you decide to work alongside the Women’s College Hospital?
Making sure my fans are happy, healthy and giving back to their community is very important to me. So, when I heard about this special opportunity to support Women’s College Hospital, which has been helping women and their families for more than 100 years, I was so excited to take part. I am also excited to be supporting women and children in Canada, where I am from.

How do you hope this project will benefit the Women’s College Hospital?
The song will be released on iTunes, and the proceeds will support Women’s College Hospital. Women’s College Hospital is currently raising funds in order to build a new facility with state-of-the-art equipment and to support their research on women’s health.

Why was it important to have the foundation support children and youth with illnesses and disabilities?
I have always been inspired by my fans who are living with a serious illness or disability and work hard to follow their dreams, no matter how challenging their circumstances. I learned that millions of children have healthcare needs in the US and Canada, so to me, it is very important to give back to them. Just like other kids, they deserve to have fun experiences!

What other projects have the foundations taken on?
Our latest projects include 10 recreation programs across the U.S. and Canada called the Avril Lavigne Rockstar Club at Easter Seals. The Rockstar Clubs include cooking, music and dance classes, youth groups and more. We also created the Camp S.T.A.R.S. program (stands for Summer Time Avril Rockstars) which sent 50 kids with disabilities to camp this summer who might otherwise not have been able to attend.

Are there any plans to take on new projects or pair with other organizations?
I can tell you that we’re looking at continuing to expand our work in Canada, and I’m so proud to be giving back to where I’m from!

You can order the song now.
