Celebs Give Advice On How To Break Into The Music Industry Like Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes

Are you an aspiring musician looking to make it big in the industry but have no idea where to start? Don’t worry about it, there are many people who started in the same situation as yours and made it big – like Shawn Mendes. This 16-year-old Pickering, Ontario native was an aspiring artist with pitch perfect vocals. Shawn Mendes took advantage of the growing trend of Vine videos, so catering to this large audience of teens Shawn began posting six second snippets of him singing. Shortly after, his videos went viral resulting in the young singer inking a deal with Island Records. Besides being super active on social media and promoting his brand and music, Shawn’s success is owed to his patience, perseverance and determination.

Many other huge artists started in the same position that you are in. Now with great success, these artists are trying to give back by offering advice on how you can make it big!

“Be as unique and as true to yourselves as possible. I think a lot of times, people are trying to chase what’s happening and I think that’s so silly. By definition, chasing means you’re behind and if you’re behind then you are always going to be second, at best. This applies to any career, if you are as unique and as yourself as possible, at least you are putting yourself up there rather than a mock up and I think people gravitate towards honesty and authenticity.”-  V2V“My advice would have to be to stick with what you believe in and fight for what you believe in too. What’s the point in doing something if it’s not the thing you wanted? You have to do what you feel is right for you and your career.”- cher lloyd

“You have to believe in yourself. So many people will think you’re not good enough. I think if you don’t have a strong sense of self it’s very easy to get discouraged. You have to stay self-motivated and you have to know that you’re good.”- Tinashe

“You have to believe in yourself first. You have to put in your 10,000 hours beforehand. You have to be ready and prepared. Just completely believe and be confident. You have to know you’ll make it past each obstacle, or else it’s just going to be very stressful.”- Wesley Stromberg from Emblem3

“You have to be uncomfortable in order to be successful, in some ways. Because if you stay in your comfort zone, you would never do the things that you need to do.”- LIGHTS

“Don’t give up and keep working hard. You never know what could happen.”- Austin Mahone

“ A lot of people are in it for the wrong reasons; if you don’t love it then don’t do it.”- Ross Lynch from R5

“My best advice would be to stay true to yourself and do what you want to do. Always listen to your instincts and go with them because they’re usually right.”- Ashlee Simpson

“You have to develop a thick skin. Be persistent. Just keep working harder and harder, and don’t give up.”- Ashanti

“I’d tell them to take what I do and take it to another level. As an artist, I feel so fortunate to learn from other great musicians who came before me. I believe that anyone can be what they want to be, it just comes down to hard work. I’m never going to stop trying my hardest and progressing at what I do, but I also hope to inspire others to become better. Don’t be afraid to be yourself because that is what people connect with. You learn from other artists because we have all of these tools but you need to make it your own – don’t be afraid of your own voice.”- Kiesza

“Be yourself and don’t worry about being labelled. Just wait. Give it a couple of years then it won’t matter. Because no matter what label they give you, the best thing you can do is prove them wrong.”- P!nk

“You have to feel what is right in your heart. If someone is telling you to do something just because it’s good for business, it’s a lie. Just trust yourself; it may take longer, but not everybody knows what they are talking about.”- Amy Lee from Evanescence

“You have to be willing to dump your whole life into it. You’d better be sure that’s what you want.”- Josh Ramsay from Marianas Trench

Always be up for new ideas and never be afraid to show the world your craft because, at the end of the day, even if someone doesn’t like you, there’s someone who does.”- D-Pryde
