Shawn Desman began performing at his events in his native Portuguese and Italian communities at age nine. Today, the 19-year-old is one of R&B’s hottest sensations. Although he may be riding high atop the charts, it didn’t come easy. While filming the video for his hit “Get Ready,” Shawn let us in on some sound bites.
“I wake up, work out for an hour, then hit the recording studio and do some producing. I’m at the dance studio after that from 6 to 10.”
“Unfortunately, I don’t really have much time for friends anymore. My dancers and producers are the closest people to me now.”
“This is like school for me, I’m learning something new everyday.”
“I love getting up on stage, hearing those people scream, feeling my music. That’s what makes it all worthwhile.”
“[Your family] have to be behind you or else you don’t feel good doing it.”
“People don’t always understand what it takes to get to where I am. They think you just record a song, put it on the radio and it’s done.”
“There’s a lot of food I love eating and can’t have anymore. Instead of a bag of chips, I’ll just pick up an apple.”
“If you want something bad enough you go and you do it.”

“You have to stay grounded, know who you are and stay true to yourself.”
