Diamond Rings concert review

Diamond Rings

Shining bright on stage with tons of energy, multiple outfit changes and songs that the audience can’t help dancing along to, Diamond Rings lives up to his name, showing how a performer can take their stage presence to the next level. And coming on stage wrapped in a metallic sheet is definitely a memorable way to make an entrance.

Diamond Rings, or John O, played a sold-out show at The Mod Club and it was one to remember. As a talented Canadian artist in the genre of electro-pop, he is working hard to show he has what it takes to make it in the business. He just released his album, Free Dimensional, which features some of his hit tracks such as “A To Z” and “I’m Just Me.”

After touring around the world with UK sensation Robyn, Diamond Rings came back to Canada with not only some great memories, but also advice that he could bring into his own career. “It was really exciting and I learned a lot from her,” he says. “At the end of the day, I’m trying to do my own show and do my own thing, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a real up-close and behind-the-scenes look at someone who is making great music and putting on a great show each night.”

And this 27-year-old has had some pretty impressive gigs. He performed on the Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, not to mention at Radio City Music Hall with Robyn–and these are just a couple highlights of his career so far. Despite travelling the world, he continues to call Toronto home. “It’s where I learned to do what I do and it’s where I drew my first inspiration, from other local bands and performers who have supported me in my beginning stages,” he says. “Toronto is where I’m from and it’s the place I love to be.”

As for the name Diamond Rings, he explains how it’s something that any artist should embody. “Diamonds are bright and shiny, but at the same time they’re really tough; they’re tough rocks. You have to look good and have this hunger and thirst for the spotlight, but you have to be tough because it’s not easy to do this everyday.”
