The Origin Of Valentine’s Day (Plus Looks You’ll Fall In Love With)

The origin of Valentine’s Day is murky at best, but most believe that St. Valentine was executed for helping Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were being beaten and tortured.

While imprisoned, he apparently fell in love with (possibly) the jailer’s daughter who would visit him. Before his death, it is believed that he wrote her a letter and signed it, “From your Valentine,” an expression we still use today. Sigh!

Thanks to this oh-so-romantic gesture, by the Middle Ages (aka Medieval Times, 500 AD to 1500 AD), Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France. And we would have a very special day to celebrate “LOVE”…including our insatiable love of chocolate and all things red and pink!
