Makeup Tips And Tricks For A Glamorous Prom Look

If you google “prom makeup” you’ll get 23,900,000 hits in less than 0.2 seconds. There are so many tutorials and how-to’s on the web that it could be overwhelming. Faze and our friends at Fancy Face Inc. want to help you narrow down the search by sharing a few makeup tips and tricks that’ll have you feeling like your confident self at your prom.

With glamour as their speciality, Fancy Face Inc. is Toronto and Vancouver’s most prestigious hair and makeup mobile beauty team that brings the artists and luxury to you! Faze caught up with Brittany Gray, the founder of Fancy Face Inc, to chat prom makeup tips for your eyes, face and lips plus a few favourite makeup product recommendations that’ll help you achieve your glamorous prom look.

Eyes:

Instead of going for crazy colours on the eyes that match your dress, play it neutral. Ten years from now you’ll want to be able to look back at your pictures and think that you look timeless and chic. A neutral eyeshadow with a touch of sparkle on the lid of the eye, brown in the crease, black shadow eyeliner for a softer effect and a layered lash look will give you exactly that! Place a strip of lashes on the eyes and then added a few individuals for some extra length and dimension. Who doesn’t love long and bold lashes?

Face:

1. Choose HD foundations and stay away from SPF foundations. SPF can cause a whole lot of flashback in the camera lens which makes you look paler than you actually are. Choosing an HD foundation will ensure the camera and the makeup work well together. Brittany’s top pick is Make Up For Ever HD Foundation.

2. Choose a fresh peach or pink colour for the cheeks. You never want to look washed out in photos. Having a soft, well-blended pop of colour on the cheeks is a guaranteed way to make you look glowing and glamorous.

3. Set your makeup with a powder. You don’t want to look overly shiny on your prom day. In the warmer months, makeup has the tendency to melt off the face so we want to lock it in place with a fabulous setting powder. Brittany’s favourite power is the Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Setting Powder.

4. Once you have set the look, add a bit of a highlighter powder to the tops of your cheekbones for that JLO glow. Brittany suggests taking a look at Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder.

5.Last but not least, add a touch of warmth to the skin. Choose a matte bronzer that is two tones darker than your skin, and with a big fluffy brush, sweep the colour lightly on your forehead close to the hair line, in the hollows of your cheeks, on the bridge of your nose and a touch on the chin. This will make you look healthy and glowing. But stay away from bronzers that are shimmery – you’ve been warned! Some of Brittany’s favourites are Benefit Cosmetics Hoola, Smashbox Suntan Matte and NARS Laguna.

Lips:

Choose a lip colour that compliments you the best and is signature to you! Your lips  is the area that you have some room to play with if you want a pop of colour or a touch of drama. Because you kept the eyes neutral, you are free to explore. Brittany is a fan of nudes and pinks like Alexa is wearing below, however feel free to try bold lip colours like red, burgundy, magenta, peach or orange. Try to choose a shade that works well with your dress.

With all of the tips above, you are sure to be an absolute knock-out! Do a test trial run prior to the day to ensure you get it right. This will help lower your stress level the morning of prom – don’t forget that practice makes perfect!
