3 Ways To Be More Mindful

If you think about it, the world would be a much kinder, gentler, more positive place if more of us tried to be mindful more often. Everyone would benefit from this. Being mindful is all about living in the moment, taking notice of what is happening around you and to you, and being grateful to have that moment. If you can do this, you won’t be worrying about the past or the future (about which there is nothing you can do in either case), and you can be much happier as a result.

Mindfulness is a great practice, but it can be difficult to get right, especially for beginners. It’s best, as with everything, to practice as much as possible, so that you can instantly put yourself in the right frame of mind when you need to. Here are some good ways to be more mindful in life and give yourself the peace you deserve.

Eat Slowly

Since we all have to eat several times a day, incorporating your mindfulness practice into your mealtimes is a good idea. You will be reminded that you’re meant to be being mindful as it’s part of your routine, and the action of eating itself can be a mindful act.

Instead of looking at your meal as something that needs to be gobbled up quickly so you can get on with the next thing on your long to-do list, why not savor it instead? Taking the time to really taste each mouthful of food as you eat is a mindful act, and you can certainly be grateful for the chance to be eating that food. Focus just on the food in your mouth. Think about what it tastes like and how it makes you feel. What does the smell remind you of? And remember never to watch TV or try to do anything else when you are eating. All of this is wonderful mindfulness practice.

Not only that, but by eating more slowly, you will notice when you are full more easily, and not overeat as you might if you ate quickly. You will be less likely to develop heartburn too.

 Stop Multitasking

This idea was briefly mentioned above, but we’ll go into it in more detail now. Multitasking was once considered a good thing to do. It was assumed that, by carrying out more than one task at once, people would be more productive. All that happens, however, is that many tasks are finished to a lower standard, or not at all, rather than fewer tasks being finished to a much higher standard.

In other words, multitasking is a terrible idea. Yet so many of us have been convinced otherwise that we still attempt it. It’s far better to focus on just one task at a time and stop multitasking altogether, especially if you want to be more mindful. You won’t become distracted, and you can ensure the job you are doing is done to the best of your abilities.

Let Your Mind Wander

relax take care of yourself

Although it’s often seen as a good thing to try to clear your mind entirely when you are trying to be mindful or when you want to meditate (which, for those who enjoy it, can be a good mindfulness act in itself), this can be extremely difficult, and it can cause frustration and negativity for those attempting it and failing. You can either pursue the idea, perhaps searching for a dispensary near me to help you relax more, or you can try a different tactic.

If you want to be mindful, you can still let your mind wander if you have nothing in particular to focus on. In fact, you can try to focus on those wanderings, as strange as that seems. By letting the mind go where it wants to and following where it leads, you can discover all kinds of things that will help you be more mindful in the future.
