Whether you are a supporter of the brand or not, there is no denying the stronghold that Nike currently has in the sneaker industry. Sure, there are lots of other sneaker brands that make plenty of amazing sneakers to choose from, but when it comes down to it Nike continues to reign supreme. Like Hov once said: “Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.”
The multi-billion dollar sports company has a long and storied history in the footwear industry. Year after year and release after release Nike has managed to bless us with an endless amount of sneakers that have become timeless classics.
With all the models that Nike has dropped since its inception in 1964 (when it was known as Blue Ribbon Sports), have you ever sat down to think about which sneakers are the most iconic Nike silhouettes of all time? Although there is no correct answer to that question (only opinions) with the help of SportsDomainLAB we’ve compiled a list of 5 Nike silhouettes that we feel are some of the most iconic sneakers of all time.
Nike Air Force 1
You cannot have a conversation about iconic Nike sneakers without including the now immortalized Nike Air Force 1. Although the model was initially greeted with mixed reviews (The Air Force 1 was produced in 1982 and discontinued in 1984), it somehow managed to make a comeback and establish itself as one of the most recognized Nike basketball shoes of all-time.
Aside from being the first basketball shoe to use Nike Air technology, the Air Force 1 warrants a place on this list because of how it managed to transcend cultural boundaries. Not only did it manage to make a name for itself on the hardwood, but the Air Force 1 is also considered an urban icon in the streetwear community.
Nike Air Max 1
Whether you consider yourself a sneakerhead or not, the word Air Max is synonymous with Nike. Nike’s Air Max line is arguably the brand’s most beloved and popular collection of sneakers. With all the Air Max models that Nike has released, it’s hard to argue that the Nike Air Max 1 does not rank at the top of that list. The first ever sneaker utilizing “Air Max” technology, the Air Max 1 has withstood the test of time. From OG colorways to highly coveted collabs, the Air Max 1 manages to reinvent itself release after release.
Nike SB Dunk
Some would say that the Nike SB line had a bit of a resurgence in 2019. Leading that revival is none other than the Nike SB Dunk. Whether it be the low or the high, the Nike SB Dunk is the poster child of the SB line. With Nike SB being an integral part of Nike’s history, we felt it was necessary to add these to the list.
Nike Adapt BB
I mean, do we even need to explain why these are on the list? Although they just made their release last year, the Nike Adapt BB will forever be known as the silhouette that introduced us to the future of sneakers. I mean, you can tighten your shoes using your phone for crying out loud! The first ever power-lacing basketball shoe from Nike gives you a glimpse of what the future of footwear has to offer. The future looks promising.
Nike Air Yeezy 1
Even after all these years and all these Yeezy (adidas) models, the Nike Air Yeezy 1 is widely considered the best Yeezy sneaker of all-time. Hate him or love him, Kanye West has had a HUGE impact on the sneaker culture. When all is said and done, Kanye will have earned a spot on the Mount Rushmore of sneakers influencers. Although he’s now with the Three Stripes, his origin will always be linked with Nike and the Nike Air Yeezy 1.
