Coconut Oil Will Change Your Life

If you are involved in the health or cooking world you have probably heard about coconut oil and its many uses. Coconut oil is often referred to as a superfood because it has many health benefits and is also very versatile. It has been linked to skin treatments, boosted immune systems, regulated metabolisms, and the prevention of heart disease, kidney disorders, and cancer. The oil is extracted from the kernel of matured coconuts. It is most commonly used as a replacement for beauty products, cooking ingredients and health remedies.

Cooking

Greasing Your Pans. Coconut oil works just as well as vegetable oil or other products when it comes to prepping your pan. It is also a healthy alternative.

In Coffee. It can be used as an alternative or in addition to milk or cream.

Smoothie Ingredient. When melted in liquid form coconut makes a great addition to a smoothie. Check out this delicious and healthy recipe from Simple Green Smoothies. And another from Green Press.

Popcorn Topping. Melted coconut oil also works as an amazing alternative for butter on popcorn.

Spread On Toast. Simply spread some coconut oil on your toast and you can eat it as is or add some peanut butter or jam on top.

Beauty

Skin Moisturizer. Coconut oil can be used to moisturize pretty much anywhere on your body. It will feel greasy at first, but that feeling will go away after a few minutes. Ideally organic is best, such as organic coconut oil from Clearspring.

Prevent Acne. Many people assume that applying a moisturizer or oil to their skin will cause their skin to become greasier and therefore cause more acne. This is not always true. When your skin is dry from not moisturizing, your body overcompensates with its natural oils causing greasy skin and acne. If you apply moisturizer (or coconut oil) regularly, then your body will decrease the amount of natural oils it produces causing your breakouts to stop.

Shaving. Coconut oil can not only be used as a replacement for shaving cream but also as an after shave.

Chapstick. Coconut oil can be used to moisturize and repair chapped lips. Check out Dear Chrissy to learn how to DIY your own coconut lip balm.

For Healthy Hair: Virgin coconut oil is completely absorbed by the hair, filling up the hollow shafts, adding body and making hair appear thicker, while also protecting it from damage (by reducing fiber swelling). It also moisturizes your scale to prevent dandruff and promote a shiner mane. Check out The Body’s Shop’s Coconut Hair Oil Shine for healthy looking hair all year round.
