Many people find the thought of making a big career change uncomfortable. Why couldn’t they have just chosen the right, or ‘perfect’ career in the first place, many wonder. Then they wouldn’t have to uproot themselves and go through the difficult and unsteady process of getting their foot in the door of another industry.
The truth is, feeling like you want to make a change is completely normal. In fact, it’d probably be strange if you didn’t. The idea of choosing a perfect job in a perfect industry is nice, but unrealistic. Providing you’re in a growth mindset, your personality, ideals, and other aspects of you and your life will change. So why should you feel like staying in the same role forever? It wouldn’t make sense!
Here, we’re going to discuss whether or not it’s time for you to make a change.
You Don’t Feel Like You’re Growing Anymore
We shouldn’t stop growing, ever. Staying in a growth state and mindset is key for well being and progression in life. If you feel like there’s no room for you to grow in your career anymore, then you need to do something about it. Doing the same thing day in, day out, is obviously going to cause boredom, apathy, and make you daydream of roles far, far away from what you’re doing now.
You’re Interested In A Different Line Of Work
Perhaps you find that you’re constantly thinking about a different line of work and what it would be like to be in a similar role. Your interests are there for a reason, and it’s usually a good idea to follow them and see where they lead you. Looking at a criminal justice degree online and then checking out similar courses if this is something you’re interested in will give you a starting point. There are plenty of online courses that can give you a taste for the industry you’re thinking of going into. You could learn more about it before you take a big, scary, leap of faith.
You’re Stressed Out/Bored/Lack Motivation A Lot Of The Time In Your Current Career
Maybe you feel stressed out every day at work. This is a sign that you’re on your way to body break down, and that pretty soon, you’re going to need some unscheduled time off to recharge. You might become ill, make a silly mistake and break a bone, or find yourself out of action some other way. Maybe you’re bored, or lack motivation to do anything. All of these things are signs that you need a change.
Many people say that you should find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. While this isn’t entirely true (all roles come with downsides), you should definitely feel fulfilled and happy in your work most of the time.
You Want To Start Your Own Business
Starting your own business could be a great idea, too. If you find yourself daydreaming about this more often than not, it could be worth just giving it a shot. You’re not going to regret trying, whatever happens!
