Movie Review: Fright Night

“You can’t run from evil when it lives next door.”

In a remake of the 1985 original, teenager Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation) is finally on top of his high school’s social ladder and dating the girl of his dreams.

But trouble comes to town with the arrival of Charley’s handsome new neighbor, Jerry (Colin Farrell, Daredevil, Horrible Bosses). After a string of classmate disappearances, Charley suspects Jerry’s good guy persona might be covering up something more sinister.

After witnessing some unusual activity, Charley realizes Jerry is a vampire preying on his neighborhood. When no one believes him, Jerry takes matters into his own hands and enlists the help of vampire expert and Las Vegas performer Peter Vincent (David Tennant, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire).

Fright Night stars Imogeen Poots and Anton Yelchin

Here’s the run down:

Scares: No love bites here. Jerry is the “Jaws” of vampires, ruthlessly hunting down his prey and attacking them in brutal fashion. If you’re squeamish about bloody wounds and broken limbs, beware.

Humour: Plenty! Stock full of tongue-in-cheek humor, Fright Night pokes fun at teen culture and the vampire genre itself. If you like comedy-horrors, like Zombieland, you’ll enjoy this one.

Romance: Check! Imogen Poots (Jane Eyre, 28 Weeks Later) stars as Amy—the hottest girl in school and Charley’s unlikely girlfriend. The duo is a treat for the eyes and a dynamic vampire-hunting team.
