If you’re in San Diego and looking for the perfect #Instaworthy, #foodie and #selfie shots then you need to head over to Little Italy and experience the chic and sophisticated Herb & Wood.
At first you might be overwhelmed by the vastness of this 8,500-square-foot former contemporary art emporium, but once you realize its broken down into four distinct dining areas you’ll easily navigate this modern, upscale dining destination for tourists and savvy locals alike.
Make sure you grab a drink from the bar so you’ll blend in with the locals. And if mocktails are your thing, they’ve created hangover-free concoctions of fresh juices and infused syrups that still leave you feeling like a grown up as you tour the restaurant gazing at the Picasso-esque artwork and lounging on the luxurious velvet banquettes under the sparkling chandeliers. So many photo ops!
The Food
Don’t get me wrong, despite the luxe furniture, eclectic artwork, and high ceilings, Herb & Wood is about the food. Top Chef contestant and owner Brian Malarkey and chef de cuisine Shane McIntyre are laser-focused on offering some of San Diego’s finest dishes. The menu is founded on basic principles of simple preparation (wood-roasting) combined with uncompromising quality ingredients that are seasonal and house-made. That said, be prepared for complex flavours and unlikely combinations with ingredients and descriptions you’ll need to Google. And if you’re a vegetarian…beet salad and roasted carrots have never tasted more divine!
