TIFF Essentials Lounge 2013: Our Faves

What you need to survive (and recover) from a tough week working those red carpets

The Toronto International Film Festival is upon us!

Even if you don’t have the opportunity to get in on the TIFF action (parties, red carpets and screenings are rampant in the city at this time), you can borrow from the buzz. It’s an exciting (and exhausting) time for new beginnings everywhere!

Especially with the new school year that has just arrived. The first week back can be rough: new hallways, new outfits, new friends, new assignments, new stress.

So, when I checked out the TIFF Essentials Lounge (an annual media event where we get to see the hottest stuff to help journalists and celebs alike survive a busy week of festival activities), I had you gals in mind. What would you need in order to survive, and recover from, the first week/month/semester back at school?

Here are my picks from the event:

1) MICRO Pedi ($70)

Essentials Lounge

After spending all day on your feet–wandering through the halls trying to find the classroom with the right number on it, checking out new activities on campus, heading out to celebrate the new school year with friends–those soles may need some tender love and care.

The MICRO Pedi is the easiest way to give yourself a quick pedicure. It comes with two attachments (one for regular and one for sensitive skin) that will effortlessly buff away rough, dry and calloused skin in seconds. It’s battery operated, will make you laugh a little if you have ticklish feet (but you get used to it) andgives you smooth, soft skin. Amazing!

2) SOREL Nakiska Slide Knit Slipper ($85)

Essentials Lounge

Now that you’ve got tender tootsies again, the best way to unwind after a stressful day at school is to slip those bad boys into some comfy slippers, so you can really put your feet up.

As the colder weather approaches, I know I’m going to be wearing these slippers on a daily basis, after work, curled up on the couch, watching my favourite flicks on repeat.

3) Aveda Stress-Fix Concentrate ($26)

Essentials Lounge Dana Krook massage

When I went through the lounge, I started off at the Aveda station, with a scalp massage and a quick aroma therapy session, where they used the Stress-Fix oil (100% organic ingredients). It’s really beneficial to dry parts of the skin, including cuticles, but also is clinically proven to relieve feelings of stress. I was pretty zen for the rest of the day.

There were tons of other goodies in the bag I got to take away (some highlights include an HP Slate 7 Tablet [amazing, portable technology], Elizabeth Grant Wonder Effect SOS Spot Stick [for those skin emergencies], Elastoplast SOS Blister pads [must-have] and Centrum Flavour Burst Adult Multivitamins [taste like Skittles!]).

So, when you’re ready to put your feet up after a busy few days, check some of the swag mentioned above. You’ve survived–so, pamper yourself a little!

Happy first week back!
