In 2005, Grammy Award winning musician Wyclef Jean founded the Yéle Haiti organization as a way to create projects for the betterment of his home country’s education, health, environment and community development.
By May of 2008, Yéle Haiti joined forces with World Food Programme and the Pan American Development Foundation to provide Haitian residents with food, employment services and agricultural assistance in response to the country’s current food crisis.
“The objective of Yéle Haiti is to restore pride and a reason to hope, and for the whole country to regain the deep spirit and force that is part of our heritage,” said Jean in a statement.
