According to a Canadian Tech Talent Report recently published by Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis (CBRE), Canada is among the most lucrative regions for IT personnel, owing to the abundance of both home-grown and international technology companies. Alongside the tech boom, Canada has also experienced incredible growth in the commercial and residential real estate market as more offices to house the companies and homes to house staffers have had to be constructed.

1. Toronto
It’s not such a surprise that the city of Toronto tops the list with over 200,000 tech workers. Toronto scored an A+ thanks to its great quality of labour accompanied by a tech industry concentration of 8.3%. 2. Ottawa

4. Waterloo Region
With over 20,000 tech workers, great quality of labour and a 40% growth rate within the tech sector, there’s no doubt Waterloo is one of the best places in Ontario for IT workers. Better yet, the Waterloo region is also considered as one of the best places to live in the country, owing to its safe environs and affordable cost of living.
5. Montreal
Rounding out the top five is the city of Montreal. On the whole, the city enjoys the second-highest number of technology workers in Canada at more than 130,000 but compared to the top four, it only experienced a 14% growth rate in tech talent in the five years between 2013 to 2018.
6. Calgary
This is where the overall score starts going down. Even though Calgary, Canada’s Oil rich city, scored an A when it comes to technology labour quality and employs around 40,000 tech workers, the city had an almost 7% decline in overall tech talent over the half a decade period starting 2013 to 2018.
7. Victoria
Victoria city, which happens to be the smallest in the list, has something like 10,000 workers in the technology sector and went through a 15% five-year growth rate, most likely fuelled, to some extent, by Metro Vancouver’s lack of office space combined with the high standards of living.
8. Quebec City
Many a tourist’s favourite destination, Quebec City scored a B+ due to its quality of labour. Besides, the city has an overall technology talent pool of just below 30,000. More or less, 7% of all the employees in Quebec work in the technology sector, and the city had a 4.1% growth rate over 2013-2018 in the tech industry.
9. Hamilton

10. Edmonton

Unlike Calgary, the city of Edmonton had a 25.7% growth rate of tech sector workforce in the five years between 2013 to 2018.
