A Chat With ‘Scott Pilgrim” Star Ellen Wong

Ellen Wong

Her parents wanted her to become a doctor or a lawyer, but that didn’t stop Ellen Wong from going for her true passion. She stars alongside Michael Cera in the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Ellen says that she can relate to her character, Knives Chau, who has parents who stress the importance of schoolwork, because she does, too. “I really understood the background of Knives Chau’s because she has traditional Chinese parents and they are really strict on studying and make sure that you don’t just get an A but get an A+. And I sort of grew up in that same sort of household.”

She says that while she is not on set, she loves to relax by exercising or just hanging out with the cast and crew from the film. They became a very encouraging kind of family for her—which was helpful, seeing as it was her first movie set.

Wondering what Michael is like in real life? “Michael is the most sincere and genuinely nicest guy you will ever meet. I was super nervous being on set the first day and he was always just there to make sure I was okay.”
