This also detracts from your own accomplishments. You might think that you’ve not achieved anything in life. But everybody has their own perspective of achievements. If you look at the high powered career woman who has achieved so much in life, they’ve certainly done a lot with regards to their professional life. But, you have to remember that their personal life may be something different. It is far better for you to decide on your own goals. This means looking at what you really want. It could be about getting a career of a certain stance, or it could be about something far simpler. Stop comparing yourself to others, and you will regret far less.
Stop Complaining, Have More Gratitude
When it comes to the powers of positive thought, the importance of gratitude cannot be underestimated. When you start a complaint about everything, it’s reinforcing the negativity all around you. It’s draining when we are around people that constantly complain, so think about what it’s like for the people that listen to you complaining all the time. There’s always something to complain about, but we need to retrain our outlook. You can start to turn the tide by being more accountable. We very easily hide behind excuses. And when we are not able to achieve our dreams, we will always blame someone else. But if you become accountable for your choices in life, this will empower you. In addition to this, if you start to incorporate it into your life, it’s going to become a lifelong habit that will benefit you, not just in terms of your mental outlook, but in terms of your health as well. It’s a little habit that you can start by listing three things you are grateful for every single day. It’s a perfect way for you to start small, especially if you are someone who complains a lot.

But if you have to-do lists full of things that never really get done, it’s far better to distill your life into tasks that will actually get completed. Simplifying your life is not just beneficial in terms of your outlook, but it takes the pressure away. A very good example is the common notion of decision fatigue. Many people in positions of power try to reduce decision fatigue in terms of little things, such as their clothes because it gives them more energy to focus on the important decisions. And this is something you can learn from. When you start to simplify your life, it gives you a far better sense of achievement, especially when you complete all the tasks for the day, but it gives you the opportunity to stop and smell the flowers.
Stop Trying To Make Your Future Self Perfect
When we constantly look forward, we run the risk of never feeling happy with ourselves. Learning to be our best in the here-and-now is all we can aim for. When you try to make the future perfect, it will never happen. The idea of perfectionism doesn’t exist. And when you start to compare yourself right now to that person that you want to be, it stops you from focusing on the things you’ve achieved right now. Even if you think you haven’t achieved anything, the fact of the matter is that you have. There’s always something for you to be proud of right now, no matter how little it is. When we start to look at the things that we could achieve in the future, this is very much thinking that the grass is always greener on the other side. You can compare yourself to other people, but you can also compare yourself to what you’d like to be. Having goals and structure is great for motivation. But when you live in the future, rather than the present, this is when problems may arise.
Work Smart, Rather Than Work Hard
Do you suffer from too many things to do but not enough time to do it? In which case, working smart instead of working hard can be a lifesaver. It can be controversial because we’ve been conditioned to believe that hard work is the true epitome of a genuine person. But take inspiration from those people in the business world. If you have employees that work their fingers to the bone every single day, but don’t show the results, what is going wrong? Perhaps they do not have the tools or resources to do their job properly? Working hard is good for us, but prolonged exhaustion is not. And this is something you can take to other areas of your life. You can incorporate this into your exercises, your health. And in terms of your personal development, you can use something called the Pareto principle. If you haven’t heard of it, this is also known as the 80/20 rule. It’s a tool that you can use in so many areas. The fact that 80% of the consequences come from 20% of the effort can reinvigorate your thinking. When you realize that you can achieve 80% of the things in your life with 20% of the effort, what would you do with your remaining effort? When you start to incorporate this even to exercise, your development, and anything that you want, there’s a lot less stress, and you are taking charge by using a method that has been proven time and again to work.
Taking charge of your life is down to you, no one else. When you start to think about changing your life, it is those obstacles that prove overwhelming. But look at any of these components. Incorporating just one of these could completely reinvigorate your approach to life in general. And when you start to see the benefits of taking charge of your life, only then can you see how far you’ve come. Rather than being full of regret that you didn’t do this sooner, think of now as Year zero.
