What started off as an futuristic gladiatorial adventure with the Hunger Games, has now turned into a dark tale of rebellion as the districts have joined forces and gone to war against the Capitol and their leader President Snow (Donald Sutherland).
Mockingjay Part 1 left us as the edges of our seats as the heroic group from District 13 went on a deadly mission to save their own – including Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) Johanna (Jena Malone) and Annie. Now that our heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has seen what President Snow has done to her friends, she’s ready for a fight – its war. Even though rebel leader Coin (Julianne Moore) would prefer that Katniss stay behind to serve as a symbol, rather than joining the front lines of battle, the young warrior is determined to join the battle. She escapes from District 13 and joins a little squad including Finnick (Sam Claffin), videographer Cresssida (Natalie Dormer) and her off-and-on love interests Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and Peeta–who is brainwashed and wants to kill Katniss, making this battle even harder–as they head towards Snow’s palace with only one thing on her mind: assassinating the President.
Once the squad emerges from behind the front-lines, a video game vibe takes over as the group pushes through the largely vacated Capitol toward Snow’s palace. The rebels’ scope reveals the whereabouts of countless “pods” that have been hidden throughout the city and will explode or set off other nasty reactions when approached (it’s literally terrifying). With war comes death so who will survive this final “Hunger Game”? Can Katniss finally choose between Gale and Peeta? And most importantly, will there ever be a happily ever after for our Mockingjay heroine?
Intensity: War is tense. The Hunger Hames were intense. This is the last series of a 4-part movie so you know the whole thing is just intense!
Love: There’s a scene where Peeta and Gale are talking about who’s going to get the girl. It pretty much broke my heart because the deciding factor was whoever isn’t killed during this battle will get to be with Katniss *tear*.
Girl Power: Katniss is the girl on fire (cue Alicia Key’s “Girl On Fire”). She’s so badass because she sticks to what she believes in and uses her brain in tough situations. We all need a little bit of Katniss Everdeen in ourselves.
