Normal Skin Type

When the texture of your skin is neither too oily nor too dry, you have normal skin. Known as eudermic skin, normal skin has a balanced pH level and sebum production as compared to others. Normal skin is distinguished by features such as fine pores, no blemishes, and few breakouts. One good thing about having normal skin is that you do not have to go overboard with your skincare routine. But this should not be an excuse to stop keeping it healthy and hydrated.

Drink at least 3 liters of water per day to keep your skin healthy or else your skin may get dry and flaky. It can also cause excessive sebum production. Other than that, continue wearing sunscreen because direct sun exposure will cause your skin to dry out and develop dark patches. Remember to take off your makeup as well before going to bed. Even if you do not wear makeup, wash your face every night because if you do not, your pores may become clogged, resulting in outbreaks. End the night by pampering your skin with face masks to nourish and restore its glow.

Oily Skin Type

On the other hand, oily skin is defined by its greasy appearance, large pores, and tendency to outbreaks. Unlike normal skin, oily skin is caused by excessive sebum production, which many people experience as a result of hormonal changes. Ironically, exfoliating too much produces an increase in sebum production. Moreover, the use of harsh chemicals may lead to oily skin. If you live in a humid climate, you are more prone to have oily skin as well.

To maintain healthy oily skin, moisturize on a regular basis and apply a toner to seal in moisture. This will keep your skin hydrated and prevent it from producing excessive sebum. A lightweight, lotion-based moisturizer is preferable when shopping for one. Avoid over-washing because it might strip your skin of essential oils, leaving it oilier. Wash your face only twice a day to remove all dirt from your skin. Finally, avoid touching your face to prevent pimples from spreading.

Dry Skin Type

Dry skin is characterized by its uneven texture, prominent wrinkles, and lack of suppleness. Aside from genetics, what causes dry skin is the lack of moisture, which results in a flaky and harsh appearance. Since this skin type produces less oil, it is prone to dryness and is sensitive to weather changes. Long showers are also one of the causes of dry skin since they strip off the natural oils. Furthermore, the chemicals in your shampoo or skincare products may dry up your skin. So, what can be done to address this issue?

Instead of taking a longer shower, try shorter ones and gently pat your skin when finished. Even if you want to get rid of the dirt, it is best not to scrub your skin when bathing or drying. Consider using only gentle skincare products, as certain products on the shelf may be too harsh for you. Look for products labeled ‘fragrance-free.’ If you have an extra budget, invest in a humidifier to help your skin retain its natural hydration. Above all, use sunscreen because UV rays can dry up your skin and cause premature aging. Regardless of your skin type, apply sunscreen 30 minutes before leaving the house.
