Canadian Music Week 2012

Toronto was buzzing this past week with musicians, industry professionals and enthusiastic music lovers for the 30th annual Canadian Music Week. Taking place at venues all throughout the city, CMW had tons of great events, conferences and shows to check out.

More than 800 artists and bands took part in the week’s festivities, and I must say, there was just not enough time to enjoy everything there was to offer! The conferences took place in the Fairmont Royal York hotel, which included sessions from music legends such as Paul Rodgers, Burton Cummings and SLASH.

The showcases that spanned over the five nights were full of energy. It was great to have access to so many new artists from not only Canada (such as Victoria Duffield and Marianas Trench, but all over the world–artists such as Direct Influence (from Australia) and Benjamin Francis Leftwich (from England) got their first taste of Canada this week.

And on top of all the showcases, award shows also took place. From the Canadian Radio Music Awards to the Indie Awards, fans got the chance to see their favourite artists receive recognition for their talent, as well as perform live. Home-grown talent such as Kira Isabella, Dragonette and The Sheepdogs, are just a few of the artists who took the stage.

Overall, the week was amazing and there was always so much to do. It’s a great event for aspiring musicians to learn about the industry, for professional musicians to share their advice or for anyone who simply loves to rock out with great tunes.
